What Degree? Which University? Student Photography Competition Winners

We are pleased to announce the three high school student photographers, whose photos of Sculpture by the Sea Bondi 2012 have been chosen out of all our entries to feature on the exhibition's website. Each of the photographers will receive a $100 license fee, and double congratulations to Jess Tsering, whose photo was chosen as the best we received by Clyde Yee, head photographer for Sculpture by the Sea. Jess will undertake a photography internship at Sculpture by the Sea next year.

We invited high school students to send in up to six photos of the Sculpture by the Sea (www.sculpturebythesea.com) exhibition, held from Tamarama Beach to Bondi Beach in Sydney's east between 18 October and 4 November 2012.

Thank you to students from all over NSW who entered our competition from St George Girls High, Barker College, Warners Bay High, Wallsend High School and Knox Grammar, just to name a few.

Sculpture by the Sea's head photographer, Clyde Yee, was the Competition's judge, and was highly impressed with the level of skill seen in the entries.

Our three winners are...

Jess Tsering, Model Farms High School

Of Jess' photograph of Peter Tilley's work 'in search of the sea', Clyde said,

Nicely framed and composed, Jess used the overcast weather to create a lovely moody shot of Peter Tilley's work.

Jess' work will feature on the Sculpture by the Sea website homepage (www.sculpturebythesea.com) for a $100 license fee, and is also the deserving recipient of the chance to become a photography intern at Sculpture by the Sea Bondi 2013! This will give Jess a huge opportunity to work with leading photographers in the industry at one of Sydney's biggest events, all with the aim of encouraging Jess to create more fantastic photographs.

Nicolette de Freitas, Cherrybrook Technology High School

Of Nicolette's photograph of Greer Taylor's work 'transition', Clyde said,

Nicolette has filled the lens with Greer Taylor's work to achieve a well framed and balanced image, the hot pink strands of the work standing contrasting with the background of rough sea and hazy sky to create a dramatic shot.

Nicolette's work will feature on the Sculpture by the Sea website homepage (www.sculpturebythesea.com) for a $100 license fee!

Deaglan Godwin, Sydney Secondary College Balmain Campus

Of Deaglan's photograph of Ron Gomboc's work 'repose', Clyde said,

Deaglan was in the right place at the right time to capture a beautiful sunny day image of Ron Gomboc's work looking across the Boot, with the light nicely highlighting the patina on the work.

Deaglan's work will feature on the Sculpture by the Sea website homepage (www.sculpturebythesea.com) for a $100 license fee!

A huge congratulations to all our winners, and a thank you to all who entered the inaugural What Degree? Which University? High School Student Photography Competition. This will be the first of many, including one for WA students for Sculpture by the Sea in Cottesloe next year, so stay tuned via our Facebook page for more great competitions.
